Non-Surgical Procedures at Cohen Plastic Surgery

BOTOX® DYSPORT® JEUVEAU®

BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA), DYSPORT (abobotulinumtoxinA), and JEUVEAU(prabotulinumtoxinA) now FDA-approved for a number of cosmetic uses, can make a remarkable improvement in your facial appearance, and is far less invasive than a facelift. Patients are delighted to find that a 10-minute procedure can remove their facial wrinkles, making them look considerably younger and more attractive. “BOTOX” injections work by relaxing facial muscles to smooth the wrinkles and lines that are one of the most visible signs of aging.

A proven method of treatment for dynamic wrinkles (those caused by movements repeated over a prolonged time (such as squinting or furrowing the brow)), “BOTOX” successfully removes forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, fine lines around the mouth, migraines, hyperhidrosis for the underarms/armpits, and sagging in the neck. “BOTOX” treatments last for 3 to 5 months.

Restylane®

Restylane, like BOTOX, is FDA-approved, but unlike BOTOX, Restylane is a dermal filler, meaning that rather than relaxing muscles, it plumps the skin in places where it is thinning due to aging. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that provides volume and fullness to the skin of all living organisms. Commonly, such thinning occurs in the cheeks, lips, and around the mouth.

Restylane is particularly well-known for plumping the lips — an effect which provides a noticeable difference in your facial appearance. Patients whose lips have been plumped appear considerably younger and more appealing. Restylane is also very useful for correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds that run between the nose and lips (laugh lines). It is considered a good choice when larger areas of skin need increased volume. Restylane is used on patients over the age of 21; treatments last for 6 to 9 months.

Juvederm®

Like Restylane, Juvederm is also an FDA-approved dermal filler of injectable hyaluronic acid. Like Restylane, it also corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, but its results last somewhat longer than those produced by Restylane — from 9 months to 1 year.

Sculptra®

Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen—the most common protein in the body that is used to form a framework to support cell and tissue—for results that can last more than two years.Sculptra Aesthetic is made with biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained specialist.

Dr. Cohen prefers using Sculptra in areas like the buttock or cellulite dimples.  The Sculptra injected into the dimples not only fills them in, but it is a collagen-stimulator, meaning the dimples are filled, new collagen is generated, and the overall appearance of the treated area is smoother and more firm.

Kybella®

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

HydraFacial®

HydraFacials go far beyond ordinary facials. They are medical treatments to resurface the skin in four steps by:

  • Exfoliating dead skin cells
  • Extracting debris (blackheads, dirt, oil) from your pores
  • Clearing out your pores
  • Hydrating your skin with nourishing serums

HydraFacials are performed using a pen-like device known as a HydraPeel Tip in order to revitalize your skin.

CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting is an innovative method of removing large fatty deposits that remain in spite of diet and exercise. There are several advantages to CoolSculpting:

  • It is far less invasive than bariatric surgery or liposuction
  • It produces noticeable results in a short time
  • It permanently eliminates fat cells
  • It is targeted, safe and effective
  • It is FDA-approved

If you are troubled by a double chin or bulging upper thigh or buttocks, CoolSculpting may be the perfect solution for you.

Scar Therapy

The visibility of scars from wounds, operations, pockmarks or acne may be diminished in a number of ways. In addition to the laser treatments which help with color in scars, raised scars (such as keloids), may benefit from other nonsurgical treatment methods including:

  • Dermabrasion, a process which uses an electrical dermabrasion machine to remove the top layers of skin, to reveal a smoother surface
  • Soft tissue fillers, such as fat, collagen and hyaluronic acid, to treat indented, soft scars
  • Punch Grafts, small pieces of normal skin used to replace scarred skin
  • Chemical Peels to remove the top layer of the skin, smoothing superficial scars
  • Cortisone injections to shrink and flatten very firm scars, such as keloids.
  • Interferon injections
  • Microneedling (see below)

Microneedling (with PRP)

Microneedling is a procedure that makes use of tiny needles to boost the production of collagen and elastin by distributing nourishing substances, like antioxidants and vitamin C, into the skin. Microneedling is used to smooth out scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, and crepey skin, and to decrease the size of enlarged pores.

PRP (platelet-enriched plasma) is created by using a centrifuge to increase the platelet density of the patient’s own blood. That enriched plasma is then introduced into the skin through tiny needles to accelerate the healing process. Microneedling can be combined with PRP to successfully treat hyperpigmentation, large pores, scars, sun damage, uneven skin texture, and wrinkles.
